White Pine : Natural History
The White Pine, scientifically known as Pinus strobus, is a member of the Pinaceae family and is classified as a gymnosperm and conifer. The White Pine is native to southern Canada and the northeastern states; however, it ranges from southern Canada down through the U.S. to northern Georgia and Alabama. The climate of the white pine is generally cool and humid, though the tough tree is not frightened by harsh winter weather. The White Pine is adaptable and can grow on soils that range from sandy to rich (NRCS, 2013).
