Washington Hawthorn : Trees on Campus
There are many Washington Hawthorns on UVM campus, and unless you are an engineering or business student you might not have noticed them. They are located outside Votey and Perkins, encircling the building. Most of them are of the multi-stemmed variety, and all have had their lower branches pruned to avoid human injury. Right now they are distinguishable by their bright red berries and long thorns if you look up into the branches. They make a great ornamental here, livening up a rather dreary building. Pictured above are some of these Hawthorns, whose red berries are still visibile even this late into winter. In addition to providing some color, you can see that they are arranged around a small bench here, making it a perfect summer study spot, underneath the shade of these beautiful ornamentals.
