Paper Birch : Location
The roots of the paper birch, Betula Papyrifera, span a vast majority of North America- from Alaska and across Canada, and down the eastern coast of Appalachia. In the New England region of the United States, the birch paints the landscapes of Maine, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, and the northern and western parts of Connecticut. The birch can be found growing along the borders of streams, lakes, and swamps; rich forested slopes, and deep in rocky woods with cool soil. The birch thrives where the average summer temperature hovers around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. Growing amid woods of evergreens is where the birch prospers the best.
