This German Renaissance-era painting depicts a traditional battle scene among men. The musculature of the fighters evokes fully empowered, virile images of masculinity within art.  However, like many representations of the female form in Renaissance art, the male form is in full display in the piece, even depicting multiple angles, to show the male form in its entirety.
