18th Century Corset

Women's Corset, 18th century

This colonial era corset, in vibrant green linen, was very commonplace for the time period. Unlike the many that followed it, this corset was less extreme in body modification than the wasp-waisted corsets of the Victorian era. The corset would cinch the waist by about three inches, creating a defined waist and excellent posture. Perfect posture was considered to be very beautiful and signified a demure and composed woman. Though her movements would have been very restricted and she would have been more prone to fainting, the woman who wore this corset would have been considered very beautiful (with her 25.5 inch waist).
