Beauty

The roles of women, when compared to the roles of men, have been historically marginalized.  There is one aspect associated with femininity that has been given plenty of attention and is often emphasized throughout history, and that is the concept of beauty.  Although we see idealizations of both the male and female beauty within both art and society, the attention is almost always placed on the female body. These ideals create an mage of perfection that appears to be realistic, yet is entirely unattainable for many. We see this quest for perfection reflected in the material objects meant to transform the body, both visually and physically.
