Equestrian Tomb of Bernabò Visconti
Description
A marble statue of Bernabò Visconti atop a horse is supported by his raised sarcophagus. The sides of the tomb are carved with different scenes. The front panel, immediately below the head of Visconti and his horse, shows the Four Evangelists. The back depicts the coronation of the Virgin. The side panel originally seen by the congregation of San Giovanni in Conca was the crucifixion. The opposite panel, originally viewed by the choir, shows Christ as the Man of Sorrows.
