Dear Mrs. Keyes:
Your very kind and thoughtful letter was most welcome, and I am glad I can say that several of your good suggestions about the Granite Monthly I already had acted upon. The New England News Company will begin with the July number to place it on the news stands throughout New Hampshire and elsewhere, if there is a demand for it. An article by Mr. Paine was promised for the June number but he was obliged to put it over until September. I am reviewing Mrs. Porter’s “Dawn” for the July number and perhaps that will influence her to help out some.
Your letter to Brandt & Kirkpatrick I have forwarded as you suggested with one of my own under separate cover designed to work together with yours for obtaining the story. As soon as I hear from them I will plan about using it; how many parts etc. I know all who read it will like it. The one thing to do is to let people know about it and I am planning to advertise it in the state papers, as well as to send to the list of possible subscribers which you suggest.
I have received a really valuable historical article from Wisconsin, about New Hampshire schools, for the July number; and Mr. George H. Sargent, “The Bibliographer” of the Boston Transcript, has given me an article on his specialty. We are really getting some first-rate matter into the magazine and if we can make folks know it I believe success will not be so far away as sometimes it seems to be.
Such letters as yours would inspire courage in the most confirmed pessimist, anyhow.
Yours very truly,
H.C. Pearson
