Dear Mrs. Keyes,
Thank you very much for your two letters of the 25th and 30th which I both received in the office this morning.
I am indeed very sorry that you have again such lot of trouble with the remittance from America and you can rest assured that nothing will be left undone to try to facilitate such matters for Americans coming over to Germany. I hope, when you come back in the summer, you will have no more trouble.
Regarding the proposed interview, I can say no more but that the whole matter was very unfortunate and I do hope that you have no ill-feeling about it all. The Chancellor was here in Berlin for the New Year festivities and for the interview with the French Ambassador, but has again left for Upper-Ravaris. On this account there will be no chance of making any arrangement before you sail for home.
I received the money you sent me and have got into touch with the adress given and hope that at least the hat will arrive in America in good time. I also hope to get time to look into the matter of your picture and will write to you
(PAGE)
direct to American as soon as I have any news to give you.
You mention nothing in your letter about Ruth's stay in Freiburg and after what you told me on the telephone, I presume that you have taken her along with you. Should this not be so, please let me know her whereabouts so that I can keep in touch with her and be of assistance if necessary.
Wishing you a pleasant trip and trusting that I will hear from you from America very shortly, I am,
Yours very sincerely
