My dear Mr. Bigelow:
Thank you for your letter of May 19. I am glad to know that you are to be in the office and at liberty on may 29th, and will come in at 11 o’clock that morning to see you unless I hear from you that this hour is not convenient.
Without knowing that you had approached Mrs. Sabin, I did so myself at the suggestion of Mrs. Medill McCormick, and have received in reply a very kind letter from her, copy of which I enclose. It is a mystery to me why the republicans, taking them by and large, are so much more blind to the benefits to be derived from publicity than the democrats are. I am sitting on velvet as far as Houston is concerned, exactly as I was at new york four years ago, but I have as yet no definite assurance that I am to be taken care of in Kansas city beyond a verbal promise that I will be manages some way. Of course I shall get in, but I hate this haphazard way of doing things.
