Description
Kissi pennies, as the Kissi and Loma people of Sierra Leone and Liberia know them, are twisted bars of iron used as currency in West African markets from the last 19th century through the early 20th century. Kissi pennies were said to have been worth one farthing, which was equal to ΒΌ of an old penny, former monetary units of the United Kingdom.
